Lecturer

Richard holds a Doctorate in Sociology (majoring in gender and rural water governance) from Maynooth University in the Republic of Ireland. He also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Water Management from Dundalk Institute of Technology, from the Republic of Ireland, as well as a Master of Science in Environment & Natural Resources, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Management, both from Makerere University. Richard’s research focuses on how gender dynamics influence and affect development, in particular rural water access and governance, disaster risk reduction (DRR), resilience and adaptation to climate change, health, wildlife conservation, migration, livelihoods and food security, women empowerment, conflict, and gender-based violence. Richard has published journal articles and book chapters in these areas. He has also implemented various research projects as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator/team member or Environmental Sociologist or Gender Expert. Richard has also conducted consultancies with reputable international, multinational, and national organizations such as UNDP, UNODC, World Food Programme (WFP), FAO, GIZ, International Rescue Committee (IRC), Lutheran World Federation, AVSI Foundation, Landesa, CARE, Catholic Relief Services, Mercy Corps, Save the Children, World Vision, Solidaridad, and UGANET among others. Richard has also worked and continues to collaborate with various ministries, departments, and agencies in Uganda such as the Ministry of Water & Environment, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, and the National Environment Management Authority.
