Resty Naiga is a Senior Lecturer and the current Chair and Head of the Department of Development Studies, Institute of Gender and Development Studies, Makerere University. She has a PhD in Social Economic Sciences from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, Austria; a Master in Development Studies from University College Dublin, Ireland and a Bachelor of Social Sciences from Makerere University. She has extensive transdisciplinary research experience using mixed methods. Her extensive research and publications focus on natural resources governance, decentralization, refugee studies, collective action, conflict, and peacebuilding, specifically on gender and children. She serves in different capacities on various professional and community-based organizations. She is passionate about the implications of wealth inequality on society's well-being and uses research-based evidence to impact policy and practice. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master on Coordinated Humanitarian Response, Health and Displacement (HumanResponse) funded by the European Union starting 2025 between seven universities (University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE), Portugal, NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Makerere University (MAK), University of Cape Verde (UniCV), University of Santiago] (USant), [University of Rovuma (URovu) and University of Athens (UAthens). Other government and Civil society partners on the HumanResponse joint master are the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), Refugee Led Organisation Network (RELON), Alight Uganda, and Uganda Red Cross.
Land acquisition and rising land Inequality in Rural East Africa (LARLIREA) collaborative Research Project between Makerere University, Kenyatta University, and Thünen Institute of Rural Economics, Germany. This project provides full PhD sponsorship to two students in the Department of Development Studies.
