The Institute of Gender and Development Studies, originally established in 1991 as the School of Women and Gender Studies, is a multidisciplinary academic centre committed to advancing gender and development issues from an African perspective. With a strong national and international outlook, the Institute promotes gender equity through teaching, research, advocacy, and community engagement. Its mission is to provide intellectual leadership for mainstreaming gender in all areas of development—economic, political, and socio-cultural—while training change agents to integrate gender in policy and decision-making. The Institute is dedicated to reducing the gender digital divide and contributing to local and global discourse on gender equality.
